Identity by Egelnick & Webb
Opposite tone of voice to vintage clothing but some wonderful examples of how the range of products could be expanded. Particularly like the logo and shop front, creating identities for more commercial brands is something I would also like to explore.

Hecker Guthrie
Identity for Paul Hecker & Hamish Gurthrie, two interior designers, by Cornwell studio. Although its slightly on the other end to communicating a vintage shop, I was considering using wood for the belt hangers and I feel here it has a feel of recycling and a subtle texture. I will continue my designing for the hanger and get it laser cut before hand in.
This is also a good example of how photographing work can make a big difference, also how effective a stamp can be for expanding the printed deliverable's.

Button Book
Continuing my research into vintage buttons and came across these in a book Will was reading, don't think they are particularly appropriate for the logo but might be nice to explore different eras of buttons for the rest of the Kenny identity.
Bookish Identity
Another beautiful project on AFOM, particularly inspired by the logo / business card design. Loving the simplicity and playful tone of voice the identity gives the brand. Another important point to pick up on is the communication of the branding across all fronts, consistent and a perfect example of how one piece of design can be developed into a wide range of deliverable's.
I defiantly need to focus some of my time towards the online presence of Kenny...

Vintage Fashion
Starting to generate ideas for visuals / development and decided the library is always a reliable place to start. I was focusing on the 70s / 80s fitting with the clothes in kenny. These are a selection of the pages that I found particularly helpful, mainly because of their focus on textile design and pattern making - need to start thinking of a concept for my visuals after my feedback in the crit.

Bag Examples
I wanted to produce some form of bags for Kenny's so I started browsing existing examples, these are some of the most interesting / relevant designs I came across. Although some of the bags arn't in the retail field they are some creatively inspiring examples.
Things I have picked up on
- Use of colour / layout and negative space
- How the type integrates with the logo / information

Ranges
A selection of particularly impressive ranges with a focus on retail / clothing (a few exceptions). Doing this research to broaden my range and think of alternative ideas, some that I have considered that weren't bought up in the initial sessions.

Primary print research
One of the issues I picked up on through the print module at the start of the year was the lack of primary research into printed media. This post is the general retail / fashion items that I managed to acquire after a trip into town. Also a few interesting examples of promotion as research for my flyers.

80s Technology
I was thinking about doing a campaign using these retro technologies as a focus point, given that a lot of the clothing in the shop is 80s or at least fashioned to reflect styles of the 80s. This could be an appropriate aesthetic to engage the current audience and hopefully expand it.

Logo Visuals
Initially I based a lot of my logo designs on type orientated outcomes but felt there were so many visuals within fashion and vintage clothing that a more image based logo would be more appropriate. The main areas I was looking into were - vintage buttons, stitching, pins and clothing labels...

Best Vintage
Best Vintage is a sister shop to Kenny in town, it has more of a commercialised identity which may be part of its success but also its location is prime. I need to consider other methods of delivery, using the shop windows in best might be a good way to advertise their other store.
Tone of Voice / Audience 2
After doing a lot more research and analysis of different shops to see where Kenny should stand in the hierarchy of vintage shops in Leeds - this is a re-evaluation & summary of my previous statements surrounding audience and tone of voice...
Audience
- Students / younger generation (living on a budget)
- Those with an interest in vintage fashion / clothing
- Those on a clothing budget, but appreciate retro clothes
- Both a male and female audience
Tone of voice
- Informal and direct
- Playful to reflect the cheaper side of the shop
Aesthetic / tone of identity - Recycled
(representing the nature of vintage clothes)
- Applied through stock and use of colour - dull tones letting the clothes speak for themselves
- Playful and consistent across all fronts - shop face, web, printed media etc.
Choice of typeface
- Something with a bit of history but used in a way to set the tone for a vintage / retro shop
- Could be either serif or sans at this point - Must have reasoning behind my type decision.

Swing tags
In addition to my primary research into swing tags this is a collection of some particularly examples I have found online, I have been exploring different formats / styles and stocks and found some really interesting results.

80's Cassette covers
Came across this wonderful flickr selection of 80's cassette covers and decided as a visual this could be an interesting direction for the branding. I may explore moving away from the idea of fashion cycles and be a bit more open to develop my ideas though research or combine previous ideas to this aesthetic.
Pieces of design like this that now look like ephemera are a wonderful representation of retro and the clothes in the shop. Although some of the colour schemes are pretty adventerous a cheaper recreating using different coloured stocks and black ink could be a cost effective way of dealing with the designs.

Main Studio
Wonderful piece of typography by Main Studio in Amsterdam, one of the studios that have replied back to me and I intend to visit over the summer months. I love the integration of the type, something to consider when creating the visual identity for Kenny, also interesting how it reads, another area of focus for my Kenny identity.
