Emphemera

Could be an interesting direction to go with the '100' brief...

Ephemera is transitory written and printed matter not intended to be retained or preserved. The word derives from the Greek, meaning things lasting no more than a day. Some collectible ephemera are advertising trade cards, airsickness bags, bookmarks, catalogues, greeting cards, letters, pamphlets, postcards, posters, prospectuses, stock certificates, tickets and zines. Decks of personality identification playing cards from the war in Iraq are a recent example.

The way these examples below have been documented is largely why I am interested in explore this area. The quality of the image allows you to see the way the designs have aged, the way the ink has worn off revealing intricate textures and how design has progressed or regressed in some cases. I could collect my own examples of 'ephemera' and record them in a similar way and see where they takes my ideas.

Despite this being a really interesting direction to explore for this project, I think what draws me into these designs are their age which would make it hard to collect primary research examples and may result in me loosing interest, I have however learnt the importance of image quality will bear this in mind when documenting in future.
