What is Graphic Design

"Graphic design ...... is the effective delivery of a message, idea or concept through the use of visual language."

Kodak - ephemera
I love old design like this, things that have conflicting colour schemes and still manage to maintain such longevity, old metal cases have been replaces with hideous plastic with no character. The kodak case is immediately recognizable just through the colour scheme and simple text, which I think is a large part of visual language as well as a companies identity.

Amstel - Beer mat design
This concept could not possibly be more simple, once again the brand is immediately recognizable through the colour scheme, as well as the hand gesture approving the beer working together to create a basic but crisp finial design.

Thomas Couderc & Clement Vauchez - Beasts of Fashion

These stunning images need no type to show what the company want advertised, the mixture of high quality fashion images mixed with natures giants create a visually stunning concept.

Modern Publicity - Monocle
This elegant design, with a mixture of contemporary and traditional techniques and typography produces a professional identity with longevity and class.

GTF Design - Pop Art is (with Peter Saville 2007)

The context of the book is really shown in the design, the use of the iconic typeface helvetica relates perfectly to the books theme of pop art.

James Nayler - Rock my Party
The bold use of colour and experimental typography works well with the graphic illustrations to make a symmetrical and striking poster design.

Samuel Mensah - I want Candy experimental typography

This simple yet exciting use of typography where the message literally is the medium really grabbed my attention. I love the use of italic elements of the letterforms slanting into one another reducing the empty white space on the page.

Paulis Liepa - Fly Font
This typeface inspired by fly's eyes, made of circles and blocks, has a sharp and modern feel. The effective use of research makes it a contextual and interesting typeface.

Nick Millington - Esquire zine
"Its design is consistent within the esquire brand toolkit of fonts, logos, icons, photography and illustrators so that it was instantly Esquire"

This zine was designed to celebrate mens fashion week, it was given to industry individuals as they entered fashion shows as something to read. The clean print, use of only a few inks and stunning folding design it has longevity and style.

Spin - Nike V-Seris
Dynamic piece of communication from Spin
"The folding continuos data paper and the ASCII art translations/illustrations of the shoes were used to reflect the technology of the era when the shoes were originally released."
