Fixie Polo!

Could be an interesting route to explore, such a simple idea and the fixie culture is certainly spreading across London. Need to explore on practice but one idea could be to produce either 1 or a set of 4 zines showing the different places across North East South and West London...

I went down because I have a friend who gets involved a few times a month, I didn't manage to take any photos but I managed to get a few from previous matches. Had a social engaging atmosphere but I think I may have moved to far away from my quote and 'what is a line'. I will go back to thinking about a visual timeline and make a visit to the London Design Museum to get a better idea on the modern end of the spectrum of bikes.

Information on the Website...
"You want to play? Come to London we play everyday of the week apart from Fridays.
We mostly play throwins also know as a pick-up game. A throwins is where people who want to play ‘throw in’ their mallet into the middle of the court and these mallets are randomly selected into 2 teams of 3.

A throwin game, usually has 2 teams of 3 and plays the first to 5 goals… have a look here for the rules we play by. In a throwin game we don’t have referees as its just for fun!

Most week day games start after 7pm and on the weekends about 1pm.
West Welo Polo Usually Monday & Thursday, West London play at Hurlingham park off Hurlingham Rd. check here for details.

North-East Usually Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, court on corner of Downham & Ufton Road E8, check here for details.

South Usually Wednesday and at Newington Rd, Southwark. check here for details.

…and during the winter months where it gets a bit darker NE London Polo play at our lit court, on Mitchitson road.

The very nature of the game is very sociable and we encourage all new comers to the sport.
If you want to play but worried about not having a bike or a mallet, there are plenty of players that will lend you theirs."
